The Role of Smart Technology in The Digital Transformation of Companies and Its Effect on Organizational Performance

Purpose – In the study, the effect of the increasingly important issue of digitalization in business activities on organizational performance will be investigated and the relationship between digital transformation, smart technology and organizational performance will be examined as a result of the literature review. The organizational performance of the companies manufacturing in Mersin will be measured regarding the model called Industry 4.0 and adopted as digitalization in the industry in our country and how suitable their current infrastructure is for this new technological transformation and the role of smart technology in the effect of digital transformation on organizational performance will be examined.
Design/methodology/approach – The hypotheses created within the scope of the research model were tested on the data obtained from the surveys. The reliability analysis of the data obtained from the survey research was analyzed using the Cronbach's Alpha coefficient and item total correlation methods in the SPSS 26 package program. The structural validity was examined using the Confirmatory Factor Analysis (CFA) method in the AMOS 24 package program. In the second step, frequency distribution, scale statistics, mean standard deviation and demographic variables (independent t test and ANOVA) were examined using the SPSS package program. The analysis of the research model was performed using the SPSS Prcess macro add-on.
Results – The results show that both smart technologies and digital transformation have a positive effect on organizational performance. In addition, since the indirect effect was found to be statistically significant, it was seen that digital transformation has a mediating role in the effect of smart technologies on organizational performance.
Discussion – This study provides clues to business management in terms of showing that digital transformation has a positive contribution to increasing organizational performance. Especially with the pandemic period, digital tools have made a very rapid entry into both the social lives of individuals and the business processes of businesses. This study reveals that there is a positive change in the employee performance of businesses that exhibit pioneering behavior in this regard.
