Purpose – The purpose of this study is to analyze the relationships between the threats and harassments dimension of mobbing and the perception dimension of work safety awareness in occupational accidents.
Design/methodology/approach – As a method, the deductive method was used in literature writing and the “quantitative relational” model was used in the method section in order to analyze cause-effect relationships, and the survey participants were determined by simple random sampling method.
Results – As a result of the regression analysis, it was determined that threats and harassment at work have negative effects on the perception of workplace safety awareness. It was observed that the participants' perceptions of occupational safety awareness differed according to marital status.
Discussion – Increasing competition in the globalised business market makes it very difficult for businesses to sustain their existence and continue their activities profitably. In addition to these negativities, threats and harassment in the workplace can increase occupational accidents and this situation causes loss of work, loss of earnings, increased accidents, turnover of labor force, decreased motivation of employees and dissatisfaction of consumers. In order for businesses to achieve their goals, to make new investments, to achieve competitive success, to motivate employees and to develop the national economy, mobbing behaviors in the workplace should be prevented. It is not enough for businesses to make efforts alone in terms of preventing mobbing, reducing occupational accidents, increasing employee motivation and developing the country's economy. For this reason; public institutions, society, businesses, non-governmental organizations, foundations, universities and all similar institutions should act together and in solidarity. In this context, it was thought that conducting scientific research on the relationship between mobbing and occupational accidents in universities could be beneficial to the relevant environment and this study was planned to be conducted.
