Abstract

Purpose- Cronyism is a condition that regularly occurs in corporate life and can lead to circumstances like an increasing of turnover intention. These situations are more common in thermal hotel businesses, which have a labor-intensive working system. In this context, the aim of the research is to determine the effect of the general cronyism perception of the employees working in the 5-star thermal hotel businesses operating in Afyonkarahisar on their turnover intention. Design/methodology/approach- In the model prepared based on the purpose of the research, it is possible to determine the relationship between more than one variable. For this reason, relational scanning model was used in the research. A questionnaire form was developed to collect research data. There are two scales as a measurement tool in the research questionnaire form. The first scale is the 7-item "General Cronyism" scale, and the other is the "Turnover Intention" scale consisting of 3 items. 396 personnel working in thermal hotels in Afyonkarahisar participated in the research. In the analysis of the obtained data; techniques such as frequency distribution, factor analysis, correlation analysis and regression analysis were applied. Findings- According to the findings obtained as a result of the analysis of the research data, it was determined that the majority of the participants were male employees, and their industry experience was less than 5 years. In addition to this, the most important finding of the research is that there is a positive moderate relationship between the general perception of cronyism in thermal hotel employees and their intention to leave. Discussion- According to the results obtained from the research findings, as the perception of cronyism increases in the thermal hotel employees, the intention to leave the job also increases. In addition, according to the results of the regression analysis, it can be said that turnover intention is significantly affected by the general perception of cronyism. The reason for this situation can be shown as the continuation of thermal hotel business activities with spouses, friends, family and people from the immediate environment.
