Abstract

Purpose – The purpose of this study is to examine the effect of organizational agility on employees' perceptions of a development culture. First, hotel employees' perceptions of organizational agility and development culture were investigated. Subsequently, the relationship between the dependent variable, perception of development culture, and organizational agility was examined, and the effects of organizational agility on development culture were analyzed. In addition, it was investigated whether perceptions of development culture and organizational agility differed according to demographic variables.

Design/methodology/approach – The survey technique was used to collect data for the study. The surveys were administered in two different ways: face-to-face and online. Within this scope, 505 participants were reached using the convenience sampling technique. Upon examining the survey data, 100 questionnaires were excluded from the dataset because they were incomplete, randomly completed, or contained similar issues. Therefore, a total of 405 questionnaires were included in the analysis. The data collected through the surveys were analyzed using the SPSS program.

Findings – The results indicated that participants' perceptions of organizational agility and development culture were at a moderate level. The study found that organizational agility had a significant positive effect on development culture. Differences according to demographic variables were also tested. The analysis revealed that participants' perceptions did not differ by gender, education level, or tenure, but did differ by age, marital status, and position. Married participants, those aged 40 and older, and service staff reported higher perceptions than other groups.

Discussion – As a result of the study aimed at determining the effect of organizational agility on employees' perception of development culture, it was concluded that, given the importance of organizational agility and development culture practices for hotel businesses, these practices are not at the desired level. Therefore, it is considered that businesses should implement organizational agility and development culture practices more extensively to instill them in their employees.
