1. About the Journal

The Journal of Business Research-Turk is an international, scholarly, peer-reviewed, and open-access journal that aims to produce and disseminate original scientific knowledge in business studies and related fields. The Journal is published electronically four times a year, in March, June, September, and December. Its publication languages are Turkish and English.

The Journal embraces the principles of scientific impartiality, editorial independence, research and publication ethics, transparent peer-review processes, open access, integrity of the scholarly record, diversity, and inclusion. Submissions are evaluated solely on their scientific quality and alignment with the Journal's aims and scope, irrespective of the authors' institution, academic title, nationality, gender, ethnicity, or political or religious views.

2. Aims and Scope

The Journal aims to publish current, methodologically rigorous, and original research that makes a clear contribution to national or international literature in the theoretical and applied fields of business studies. Studies are expected to present a clearly defined research problem, engage critically with the relevant literature, employ an appropriate and transparent methodology, and discuss the theoretical and/or practical implications of their findings.

The Journal's scope principally includes the following fields:

• Strategic management, organizational behavior, human resource management, and employment relations
• Marketing, consumer behavior, entrepreneurship, innovation, and retailing
• Accounting, finance, banking, auditing, and corporate governance
• International business, supply chain management, logistics, and operations management
• Production management, management information systems, digital transformation, and business applications of artificial intelligence
• Tourism management, services management, and healthcare management
• Sustainability, business ethics, social responsibility, and research methods in business studies

A superficial reference to a business context is not sufficient for a manuscript to fall within the Journal's scope. The research question, theoretical framework, and claimed contribution must be directly related to the business literature.

3. Publication Language

Manuscripts may be submitted in Turkish or English. Articles written in Turkish must include titles, structured abstracts, and keywords in both Turkish and English. A Turkish abstract is not required for articles written in English; however, an English title, structured abstract, and keywords are mandatory. Authors are responsible for ensuring that the manuscript is of publishable quality in terms of academic language and expression. The Editorial Office may request professional language editing where necessary.

4. Accepted Article Types

The Journal of Business Research-Turk considers only original research articles.

A research article is a study that investigates a clearly defined research problem or question using scientific methods, includes original data and/or original analysis, and makes a theoretical, methodological, or practical contribution to business studies. Research articles may employ quantitative, qualitative, or mixed research methods.

5. Submissions Not Accepted by the Journal

• Studies that are not directly related to the Journal's aims and scope
• Studies whose original scientific contribution is not clearly demonstrated or that remain purely descriptive
• Bibliometric studies
• Studies that have previously been published, accepted for publication, or are under consideration by another journal
• Articles derived from theses, conference papers, or reports without appropriate attribution or substantial development
• Research requiring ethics committee approval or informed consent for which the necessary documentation cannot be provided
• Studies involving fabricated or falsified data, findings, images, or references; plagiarism; duplicate publication; improper authorship; or other serious ethical violations
• Unverified or undisclosed content generated using artificial intelligence in a manner that compromises academic integrity
• Practice-oriented texts that merely report on a particular institution, sector, or country without making a theoretical or methodological contribution

6. Submission Requirements

Manuscripts must be submitted exclusively through the Journal's online manuscript management system. The corresponding author confirms that the submission has been made with the knowledge and approval of all authors and that the order of authors and their contributions have been approved by all authors.

• An anonymized main manuscript file suitable for blind review and free of information revealing the authors' identities
• A separate title page containing the authors' names, affiliations, ORCID iDs, email addresses, and all required declarations
• Ethics committee approval or a reasoned statement explaining why the research did not require ethics committee approval
• Where applicable, permissions to use scales, informed consent documentation, data-sharing links, and other supporting files
• A Word file prepared in accordance with the Journal's current manuscript template

Submissions containing missing documentation, unreadable files, identifying information in the blinded manuscript, or substantial non-compliance with the formatting requirements may be returned for technical correction without undergoing scientific evaluation.

7. Originality and Prior Publication

The submitted work must be original, must not have been published previously in any language or medium, and must not be under simultaneous consideration by another publication outlet. Posting on a preprint server, derivation from a thesis or conference paper, and previously disclosed working papers must be reported to the editor at submission. Such prior versions do not automatically result in rejection; however, their relationship to the manuscript must be transparently explained and the necessary citations provided.

If an article is derived from a thesis, conference paper, project, or report, this must be stated on the title page. The article must not reproduce the earlier text verbatim or with only minor changes; it must have been substantially developed into a scholarly article.

Sample author declaration This work is original; it has not previously been published and is not under consideration by another journal. Submission of the work has been approved by all authors.

 

8. Manuscript Preparation Requirements

• The page size must be A4 (21 x 29.7 cm).
• The top, bottom, left, and right margins must each be 2 cm.
• The main text must be written in 10-point Palatino Linotype.
• The text must be justified, with 6-point paragraph spacing and single line spacing (Paragraph / Line spacing: Single).
• Headings must be numbered using a decimal system, and heading levels must be used consistently.
• Page, table, figure, equation, appendix, and footnote numbers must follow a continuous sequence.
• Abbreviations that may be understood only by specialists in the field must be defined at first use.
• The manuscript file must not contain tracked changes, comments, personal file properties, or information revealing the authors' identities.

9. Title Page and Author Information

The title page must be uploaded separately from the main manuscript file. The main manuscript file must not include authors' names, affiliations, acknowledgements, project numbers, or self-identifying statements that could compromise double-blind peer review.

The title page must include:

• The title of the article in Turkish and English
• The full name of each author
• Each author's institution, unit/department, city, and country
• Each author's ORCID iD
• Each author's institutional or regularly used email address
• Clear identification and contact details of the corresponding author
• Statements concerning ethics committee approval, informed consent, conflicts of interest, funding, author contributions/CRediT, data availability, and the use of generative artificial intelligence
• A disclosure where the study is derived from a thesis, conference paper, or project

The authors' names and order must be finalized at submission. Once the evaluation process has begun, requests to add or remove authors or change the author order may be considered by the editor only if supported by a reasoned request and the written approval of all authors.

10. Turkish and English Abstracts

The abstract must present the purpose, methodology, principal findings, and scientific significance of the study clearly enough to be understood independently of the article. It must not include citations, footnotes, tables, figures, or undefined abbreviations. The abstract must be prepared in 8-point Palatino Linotype.

Turkish and English abstracts must be structured under the following four headings:

• Amaç / Purpose
• Yöntem / Design/methodology/approach
• Bulgular / Findings
• Tartışma / Discussion

Articles written in Turkish must include structured abstracts in both Turkish and English. A Turkish abstract is not required for articles written in English. The Turkish and English abstracts must be consistent in content.

11. Keywords

Keywords must appear immediately below the abstract in the relevant language. Articles written in Turkish must include Turkish keywords below the Turkish abstract and English keywords below the English abstract. A minimum of three and a maximum of five keywords must be provided. Keywords must reflect the study's principal subject, theory, methodology, or context, and unnecessarily broad terms should be avoided.

12. Article Structure

As a general rule, empirical research articles must follow the section structure below, and headings must be numbered:

• Introduction
• Conceptual Framework
• Method
• 1. Research Model and Hypotheses
• 2. Population and Sample
• 3. Data-Collection Instrument
• 4. Data Analysis
• Findings
• Conclusion and Discussion

The names of the subheadings may be adapted where required by the nature of the research. Qualitative, exploratory, or theoretical studies without hypotheses may use appropriate headings such as 'Research Questions,' 'Research Design,' 'Study Group/Participants,' 'Data-Collection Process,' and 'Data Analysis.'

13. Tables, Figures, and Images

Tables, figures, and images must be prepared within the text boundaries and must be legible and comprehensible in print and on screen. Palatino Linotype 10 point must be used for internal text and explanations; where required by data density, a smaller font may be used provided that legibility is maintained.

• Each table and figure must be numbered in the order in which it is first mentioned in the text.
• Table titles must appear above the table; figure and image captions must appear below the visual.
• Notes, abbreviations, significance levels, and source information must be explained below the relevant table or figure.
• Tables must be prepared as editable text and must not be submitted as screenshots.
• Images must have sufficient resolution, and all necessary permissions must be obtained for third-party materials.
• Distinctions based on color must remain understandable in black-and-white display and for users with color-vision deficiencies.

14. Citation and Referencing Style

In-text citations and references must be formatted in accordance with the seventh edition of the Publication Manual of the American Psychological Association (APA 7). The reference list must include only works cited in the text, and every work cited in the text must appear in the reference list. For sources with a DOI, the DOI must be provided as an active link in the https://doi.org/ format. Authors are responsible for the accuracy and completeness of references and for avoiding the inappropriate use of retracted publications.

15. Research Ethics and Ethics Committee Approval

Research involving the collection of primary data from human participants through surveys, interviews, focus groups, observations, experiments, or similar methods must receive approval from an authorized ethics committee before data collection begins. The name of the ethics committee, decision date, and decision/reference number must be stated in a separate paragraph under Section 3.3, Data-Collection Instrument, and the ethics committee document must be uploaded to the system at submission.

Sample ethics committee statement This research was approved by [name of institution], [name of ethics committee], by decision dated [date] and numbered [decision/reference number]. Data were collected after ethics committee approval had been obtained.

 

For research using publicly accessible, anonymized secondary data or data obtained from authorized databases that does not require ethics committee approval, a reasoned statement must be provided in the Methods section. Merely stating that 'Ethics committee approval is not required' is insufficient; the nature and source of the data must be explained.

Sample statement for a study not requiring ethics committee approval This research used secondary data published by [data source] that are publicly accessible and contain no personally identifiable information. Ethics committee approval was not required because no new data were collected from participants and no sensitive individual-level data were processed.

 

16. Informed Consent

In research involving human participants, participants must be adequately informed about the purpose and scope of the research, the voluntary nature of participation, potential risks and benefits, confidentiality, use of the data, and their right to withdraw. Written or otherwise verifiable informed consent appropriate to the nature of the research must be obtained. For children and groups with limited decision-making capacity, parental or guardian permission and participant assent must be obtained in accordance with applicable legislation and ethics committee requirements.

The consent statement must be provided on the title page and, for accepted articles, moved to the end of the article during typesetting. For secondary-data studies or research not requiring consent, the statement 'Not applicable' must be used together with a brief explanation.

Sample informed consent statement All participants were informed about the study, and their voluntary informed consent was obtained.

 

17. Conflict-of-Interest Statement

Authors must disclose financial, institutional, professional, or personal relationships that could influence the study or its interpretation. The absence of any conflict of interest must also be explicitly declared. The statement must appear on the title page and be added to the end of the accepted article.

Sample conflict-of-interest statement The author(s) declare(s) that there is no conflict of interest concerning the research, authorship, and/or publication of this article.

 

18. Funding and Support Statement

All financial support provided for the research must be disclosed together with the name of the funding organization, project/grant number, and the funder's role in the research design, data collection, analysis, writing, or publication decision. The absence of funding must also be declared. The statement must be provided on the title page and included at the end of the published article.

Sample funding statements This study was supported by [name of institution] under project/grant number [number]. The funder had no role in the study design, analysis, or publication decision. No financial support was received from any institution for this research.

 

19. Author Contribution Statement

Every person identified as an author must have made a substantial scholarly contribution to the work, approved its final version, and accepted an appropriate degree of responsibility for the accuracy and integrity of the content. Administrative support, funding acquisition, general supervision, language editing, or technical assistance alone is insufficient for authorship; such contributions should be stated in the Acknowledgements section where appropriate.

The author contribution statement must be provided on the title page and published at the end of the accepted article. For single-authored articles, it must state that the author is responsible for all stages of the work.

20. CRediT Authorship Roles

For multi-authored studies, contributions must be specified using CRediT (Contributor Roles Taxonomy). The available roles are:

21. Data Availability Statement

Every article must include a data availability statement explaining the accessibility of the research data, analytical code, questionnaire/scale materials, and other supporting files. Where open sharing is possible, a persistent link, repository name, and identifier must be provided. If sharing is restricted for ethical, legal, commercial, or confidentiality reasons, the reason for the restriction and the method of access under appropriate conditions must be explained. If the statement 'Data are available upon request' is used, the conditions of access must be specified.

Sample data availability statements The anonymized dataset and analytical code used in this study are available at [repository name and persistent link/DOI]. Raw data cannot be made publicly available because of participant confidentiality and ethics committee requirements. Reasonable and appropriately justified requests will be considered by the corresponding author in accordance with ethical and legal requirements. Data sharing is not applicable because this article is a theoretical study that did not generate new data.

 

22. Disclosure of Generative Artificial Intelligence Use

Generative artificial intelligence or AI-assisted tools may not be identified as authors, cannot assume authorship responsibility, and must not be used to generate unverified information as a source. Authors are responsible for verifying the accuracy, originality, citations, confidentiality, and legal compliance of all content generated or edited using such tools.

If generative artificial intelligence has been used for text generation, rewriting, translation, code generation, data analysis, image generation, or another scientific stage of the research, the tool's name and version, date of use, purpose, and extent of human oversight must be disclosed on the title page and, for accepted articles, published in the appropriate section and at the end of the article. Disclosure is not required for standard tools used solely for spelling and grammar checks; however, disclosure is required if the tool generates content. Confidential, personal, or peer-review materials must not be uploaded to unauthorized artificial intelligence systems.

Sample artificial intelligence statements The author(s) did not use generative artificial intelligence tools in preparing this study. [Tool and version] was used on [date] to improve the language and expression of the manuscript. All generated content was reviewed, verified, and corrected as necessary by the authors; the authors retain full responsibility for the scientific content and conclusions.

 

23. Similarity and Plagiarism Screening

Submissions may be examined using reliable similarity-detection software at appropriate stages of the evaluation process. A similarity report is not, by itself, a criterion for decision-making; editors evaluate the nature of quotations, citation practices, methodological expressions, repetition from the authors' previous work, and potential patterns of text appropriation in context. The Journal does not determine ethical misconduct solely on the basis of a fixed similarity percentage.

A study may be rejected if plagiarism, self-plagiarism/text recycling, translation without attribution, copying of data or images, duplicate publication, or salami slicing is identified. If such issues are identified after publication, correction, expression-of-concern, or retraction procedures may be initiated. At submission, authors confirm that their work complies with the principles of academic integrity. The Editorial Office may request a similarity report or an explanation from the authors where necessary.

24. Copyright and Open Access Licence

Copyright in articles published by the Journal remains with the authors; copyright is not transferred to the Journal. Authors grant the Journal the right of first publication and a non-exclusive licence to publish, reproduce, distribute, archive, and transmit the work to indexing services in electronic or other formats. A 'Non-Exclusive Publication and Open Access Licence Agreement' is signed for accepted articles.

All articles are made freely and continuously accessible immediately upon publication, without any embargo period. Unless explicitly stated otherwise, content is published under the Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial 4.0 International (CC BY-NC 4.0) Licence. This licence permits sharing, reproduction, distribution, adaptation, and non-commercial use, provided that appropriate credit is given to the author and original source of publication, a link to the licence is provided, and any changes are indicated.

Authors may archive their published articles on personal websites, in institutional or subject-based repositories, and on academic networks, provided that the DOI of the published version and the original publication details are displayed. Authors are responsible for obtaining permissions for third-party materials and ensuring compliance with applicable licences.

 

25. Manuscript Submission and Editorial Processing Fee

To support the sustainability of its open-access scholarly publishing activities and contribute to the costs associated with manuscript submission, preliminary checks, editorial evaluation, technical preparation, typesetting, DOI registration, metadata creation, archiving, and online publication, the Journal of Business Research-Turk charges a manuscript submission and editorial processing fee of TRY 7,000 for each submission. This fee is not an article processing charge (APC) or publication fee collected after acceptance; it is payable in advance, before the scientific evaluation process begins, irrespective of the outcome of the evaluation. Payment of the fee does not provide any right, privilege, or guarantee that the manuscript will be sent for peer review, accepted, or published, and it does not influence editorial decisions in any way. Once payment has been confirmed and editorial processing has commenced, the fee is non-refundable. Rejection during editorial screening or following peer review, or withdrawal by the author while evaluation is ongoing, does not entitle the authors to a refund.
