The Mediating Effect of Corporate Social Responsibility on the Green Organizational Culture of Transformational Leadership Style Perceived by City Hospital Employees

Purpose – Today, businesses strive to sustain their activities in rapidly changing environmental conditions. The change in dynamic environmental conditions reveals transformational leadership style in the management process and business activities. The aim of this research is to examine the perceptions of transformational leadership style, corporate social responsibility and green organizational culture of city hospital employees, to determine the effects of transformational leadership style exhibited by top management on corporate social responsibility and green organizational culture in ensuring the paradigm transformation that needs to be realized in the orientation of enterprises towards environmentally friendly activities, to determine whether corporate social responsibility has a mediating effect on the formation of green organizational culture of the enterprise, to draw an idea map and to offer suggestions. Design/methodology/approach – This research is based on the concepts of transformational leadership, corporate social responsibility and green organizational culture and quantitative method is adopted to determine the relationships between variables. Data were collected online with a questionnaire using a five-point Likert scale.
Results – Within the scope of the research, it was determined that the attitudes of the participants towards the variables differed according to their demographic characteristics, transformational leadership style had a positive effect on both corporate social responsibility and green organizational culture, in addition, corporate social responsibility had a positive effect on green organizational culture, and corporate social responsibility played a mediating role in the effect of transformational leadership style on the formation of green organizational culture.
Discussion – In the implementation of environmentally friendly business activities, green organizational culture and employees with this awareness will make it easier for businesses to fulfill their responsibilities. Businesses will be able to differentiate and gain competitive power thanks to practices with green organizational culture. In order to transform the ongoing habits, attitudes and behaviors of employees in favor of environmentally friendly business activities, in-service trainings on business ethics, environmental ethics, responsibility, etc. should be provided periodically. The positive relationship between transformational leadership, corporate social responsibility and green organizational culture also positively affects the outcomes of the business.
